Seniors in Isolation – A Heartfelt Initiative

We love building community.

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Debbie Abfalter created the Seniors in Isolation Facebook group in response to the emotional toll experienced by many seniors. With visitor restrictions in place and limited access to technology, countless seniors were left feeling completely alone – some without a phone, tablet, or family to stay connected with.
This initiative was born out of a desire to bring joy and connection back into their lives.

Through the group, volunteers gather beautifully handwritten cards filled with kind words and warm wishes, painted rocks, handmade sun catchers and crafts, which are then sent to seniors across the community. These simple gestures go a long way in brightening someone’s day and reminding them that they are not forgotten.

It’s also a wonderful project for kids of all ages – giving them a chance to create something meaningful, spread kindness, and feel proud of making a difference.

To this day, the initiative continues to thrive. Thousands of handmade cards and thoughtful items have been created and delivered, bringing joy to seniors with every holiday.
